This laboratory allows students to study the performance of journal bearings during different test conditions. The output of this equipment is

(1) Measuring the pressure profile for the selected conditions and plotting the Cartesian and polar pressure curves

(2) Measuring the pressure profile for the selected conditions and plotting the theoretical Sommerfeld curve

(3)Measurement of shaft speed and journal speed at critical vortex

(4) Observation of oil wedge (film thickness) and hence variation of eccentricity for different speeds and loads

(5) Observation of pressure profile at this condition Observation of critical bearing vortex.
