The Research Center for Experimental and Computational Mechanical Systems (Computational and Experimental Mechanical System) was established in 2013 with Prof. Dr. IR. Bustami Syam MSME, Mr. Dr. Ing. IR. Ikhwansyah Isranuri, Mr. Mahadi S.T., M.T., Mr. Ir. Syahrul Abda M.Sc, and Mr. Ir. Tugiman MT. which is now chaired by Mr. Dr. IR. M. Sabri MT. IPM. Asean Eng. and assisted by Mr. Ahmad Yunus Nasution ST.MT.. Those involved lecturers and students who worked on thesis and thesis assignments. This research center has been involved with several institutions such as PTPN 4, Baristrand, Kuala Namu (kuala namu 2 design), Polytechnic and FMIPA Physics. The research theme focuses on automotive. Initially, this research center examined automotive construction and vibration identification in automotive. Over time, it developed using computing systems with various engineering and CAD software . And now it is going to be heading towards CAM software to design and create gcode programs. In addition, there are also Matlab, Simulink, Ansys, Autocad, Solidworks and Inventor software . The control system developed is a control system found in CNC machines, so that these machines can work with the latest control systems. In addition, the control system on the roater machine and 3D printer was also studied at this research center. This research center also examines PPNL (Non-Metallic Material Production Process) such as making resin-based molds to produce various products. It is hoped that PPNL can be a forum for students to become experts in the field of mold. The research center has also collaborated with FKG in making tools for the dental testing process. Such as vacuum machines to test the resistance of teeth from various pressure patterns, saliva flow and others. In addition, it makes surgical aids, orthopedics, as well as medical devices for comfort in the hospital. This research center will also develop bio mechanics and bio materials with software, which is to engineer new bones based on fish bones. The main tools used to conduct research at this research center are:
- Hybrid engines
- Balancing
- Spooring
- Car
- Vibration rig
- Dynotest Machine
- Car Health Diagnostic Engine
- Lathe
- Surface roughness testing machine
- CNC machines, ranging from small scale to industrial scale
- Computer and software engineering
- Acquisition tools, both thermal, flow and construction aspects
- Mechanical testing machines such as tensile test, torsion test and others
This research center is a coordination function in several labs, namely the regulatory lab, mechanical lab, dynamic lab, fluid lab, lubrication lab and others. This research center serves to coordinate lab facilities for the benefit of research and basic practicum of students. In addition, it is to foster every course related to this research center, such as engineering dynamics, kinematics, mechanical vibration, mechatronics, pneumatic and hydraulics, regulatory techniques, and others. This research center has also given birth to new elective courses, namely hybrid vehicle engineering and electricity courses. And soon it will give birth to an addictive manufacture course, about 3D printers as a production process. The research that has been carried out at the research center of Experimental mechanical and computational mechanical systems is:
- Acoustic analysis between tires and roads
- Research on vehicle construction, especially in cars, such as research on transmission, power steering, power windows, and brakes
- Reliability analysis of dynamic components of machining on the VFD machine
- Research in collaboration with Baristran on the robustness of machining components.
- Analyzing the dynamics of the palm oil purification process in the sludge separator
- Updating the control system on the CNC machine
- Designing a robotic system for picking oil palm fruit and cutting palm tree fronds
- Replacing Mitsubishi's robot control system with arduino-based
In the future, this research center is expected to be included in drone system research.
